If you've known me as a coach, you may also know how much I love to deliver the pump-up speech before the game. There is something magical about that moment, and I like to buy into that magic and bring it to life for others. You've got to believe that you can, and then you will. And I like to put people in that frame of mind.
Which is why I absolutely love this video. I challenge you to watch it and not feel inspired. I am sure it speaks to the all of my friends that competed in college or at one point in life; resonating with that inner athlete that hasn't gone away... calling us to compete, to do better, to be better than we were yesterday. And I bet it also speaks to those that are newer to competition, maybe simply with yourself - or that you've taken on a challenge and you want to see it through, in whatever realm of your life. My sister-in-law sent me this (they had played this instead of a song at her recent spin class - ugh, how I wish I was there Lis!) She is a current inspiring presence for me - her positivity, her energy around her new workouts she's found, generally the person she is and her love and support.
To all of you I say, look for that motivation - look for something that is going to light your fire when you need it most. Maybe kickstart your day by watching a video like this. Surround yourself with positive people. People that believe. Because you can do it - whatever it is that you are reaching for - reach.
"You see when you're not pursuing your goal, you are literally committing spiritual suicide. When you have some goal out here that you are stretching for, and reaching for, that takes you out of your comfort zone, you'll find out some talents and abilities you have, that you didn't know you have..."
"What is it that you looked at at some point in time and you decided that you couldn't do it - that you talked yourself out of it?" ...
"If you're waiting on your next door neighbor to make it happen for you, it may not happen. If you're waiting on your mother or your father, they may be so ancient in their thinking, that they don't understand this opportunity that you have. And if you're waiting on them, you may never get it done. You don't beg average people to be phenomenal, you don't beg good people to be phenomenal. You just are phenomenal, and you will attract phenomenal."
Now, please excuse me while I go workout...
